Andrew Black has a PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies (University of Missouri-Columbia), an MFA in playwriting (Ohio University-Athens) and a master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (San Francisco State).

His book, Signature Pedagogies for the Playwriting Classroom, will be published by Bloomsbury in July of 2025. The book is based on three years of qualitative research which used a multi-site case study methodology to research effective teaching strategies in playwriting classrooms across the United States.

Andrew’s primary interest is in the use of narratology (the science of storytelling) as a tool for accomplishing a variety of business and organizational objectives including:

  • Leadership development (the leader as storyteller)
  • Culture change (the organization as a story)
  • Change management (the story of change)
  • Personal growth / development (changing my life by changing my story)

Andrew works with individuals and groups in a variety of contexts: one-on-one coaching, seminars and workshops, and interactive speaking engagement to large groups or as a keynote speaker to group of 100 or more.
